About Adam McLean
Adam’s expertise lies in helping his clients to identify and work through the underlying issues that hold them trapped in a cycle of limitation. Through building relationship Adam and his clients work together in identifying, exploring and uncovering limitations, deep-seated beliefs and values while working towards change.
Adam McLean - is a Psychotherapist, Counsellor, Supervisor, Trainer and Educator
Having worked with a number of different types of groups, including face-to-face, telephone and online groups, Adam has emerged as a confident and specialized leader in group therapy and training. He also teaches group leadership skills in a number of settings.
As a Mental Health and Cancer Specialist Nurse, he has over 20 years experience in working with people from a diverse range of backgrounds and issues. He also has experience in management, working in not-for-profit and non-government organisations.
Adam’s life experience, education and skills in working with people along with his qualifications equips him to work in a meaningful way with his clients as they face the challenges and difficulties that life offers.
He arrived in Australia from his native country of Scotland in 1988, since then he has formed strong alliances with organisations and services. Adam made the transition to Psychotherapy and Counselling in 1997 and has been in private practice for 10 years.
Influenced by Existential Philosophy he integrates existential perspectives of life and its struggle when working with his clients. He strongly believes that we construct our view of who we are and the world through choice. In working with Adam you will learn to recognize and understand the choices you have made and are still making, as they relate to your values and beliefs and your sense of self’, others and the world.
In recognizing the underpinning influence and meaning through the choices you make, will offer you the opportunity to make alternative choices.

Currently, Adam is on the faculty of The Centre for Existential Practice, and is contracted to teach counselling and psychotherapy students at The Jansen Newman Institute and The Australian College of Applied Psychology in Sydney.
