Group in Action

“One of the things that makes group therapy real, is that it eliminates social, sexual and other status games; members go through vital life experiences together, they shed the masks, and strive to be honest with one another”.

Why join a group if you are a Counsellor or Therapists?

If you are like everyone else you will have a busy schedule. Spending time on your self care and support is one of the most challenging aspects of being a therapist.

Do you experience burnout, professional isolation, who to speak with about the challenges you face as a counsellor.

Group can offer a space to:

  • Identify patterns that limit your potential as a counsellor
  • Gain personal awareness and insight in how you communicate with others
  • Explore personal aspects of your life that may stop you from being more effective when working with clients
  • Gain confidence in your personal dvelopment as a counsellor and therapist

What is Group in Action
Group in Action is a therapy group for Counsellors and Psychotherapists wishing to focus on their personal development and expansion as a counsellor. Groups can offer a place for change to occur, provide a place for diversity and the opportunity to discover and explore the known and unknown parts of one self.

What you can expect
In a safe and supportive environment you will work under the guidance of a professionally trained and experienced group therapist. You will have the opportunity to explore areas that are important to you, seek awareness of how you relate to others and how they relate to you gaining insight and awareness that will assist you in your work as a Counsellor.

Format
Irvin Yalom’s Interpersonal Model of group therapy is used.  It works on the basis that each member is responsible for his or her own participation and collaboration rather than being a prescriptive educational model.  The focus is on the here and now of process illumination.
